Summer session 6 to 26 July 2009
Responding to several requests, the Al Bustan Festival is organizing a summer session of Gospel singing courses during the month of July. The courses will be led by Dr. Joanna Nachef from L.A. accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Sandra Sholakian. There will be 2 sets of 6 courses of Gospel singing which will culminate in a Concert on Sunday 26 July at 8h30 p.m. Sessions will take place in Hotel Al Bustan - Beyt Meri.

Get into a joyful mood this summer and join us for the Gospel choir courses
Courses will start at 18h30, the length of each course is 1h45 with a 15 minutes break. There will be a general rehearsal on Saturday 25 July and an informal concert on Sunday 26 July at 19h30 which can be attended by the friends and families of the participants (free of charge).
A subscription for one set of courses costs $100. We encourage you to subscribe to both sets.
Biography: Dr. Joanna Medawar Nachef lives in Los Angeles. She is the Director of Choral Activities at El Camino College in California. She earned her B.M. in piano performance from California State University, Dominguez Hills, received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree and Master of Music degree in -Choral Music from the University of Southern California. Nachef is on the faculty of California State University Dominguez Hills, the California Academy of Mathematics and Science, and the Artistic Director for Los Cancio?eros master Chorale.
She served as Minister of Music at Penisnsula Community Church from 1980 -1997, and is their choir director at the present time. Dr. Nachef was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1986, one of 1996's Who's Who Among America's Teachers and 2008 Who's Who Among America's Women.
On May 29th, 2005, Dr. Nachef gave her conducting debut at Carnegie Hall, New York. She led the New England Symphonic Ensemble and a 240 voice choir in Schubert's Mass in G. Dr. Nachef's second conducting appearance in Carnegie hall was with her "Ambassadors of Harmony" choral group, on March 25, 2007. On December 1, 2007, she appeared as choral director and performer with Andrea Boccelli's MGM Grand Arena concert, las Vegas, 17000 in attendance. Dr. Nachef received the 2008 Daily Breeze Director's Award for "Making a Difference" in the South Bay Area, April 2008, the United States Institute of Peace in Washington D.C. selected Dr. Nachef to participate in the "Global Peace and Security Seminar" for community college faculty.
